Daphne and Lorenzo’s Wedding

Filed under Weddings • Written by Sara Beth Raab @ 2:53 pm

Connie and I photographed Daphne and Lorenzo (Herky) wedding recently on a cold cold COLD Saturday! The ceremony and reception was held at the Brooks, the flowers were done by L&J Productions, and extra wedding planning was done by Southern Event Planners… not sure who did the cake, so if you know, pipe in!

We really had a blast watching all the kids at this wedding, especially all those crazy boys! Connie and I also kept on noticing how much Lorenzo just L.O.V.E.D Daphne, I mean you could just see it allllll over his face. And of course we had a fun time making fun of Lorenzo’s “bling.” He is the only man I’ve ever met that can pull off diamonds and not look pompous or weird at all. It was a fun day.

A few things we loved about this wedding were the use of a heated tent for an outdoor wedding, the candles hung from above, the use of colored up lights, the “cigar tent” all done in red with lounge furniture, the food stations, and of course the late night run of little burgers and fries.

On to photos:

So what is Southern Design About anyway??????

Filed under News, Weddings • Written by Sara Beth Raab @ 10:41 am

I just wanted to spotlight my letter to you couples!!!!  I spent alot of time and thought on this so read up!!!

Dear Happy Couple,

Most of all, congratulations on your engagement!  I’m sure this is such an exciting time for you both! I just love the excitement that surrounds weddings that I’m privileged to attend.  I get to watch my newly engaged couples grow from our first meetings, throughout our engagement and bridal sessions and finally into full bloom as a married couple at the grand wedding event.  Many couples even allow me to document the transition into parenthood, starting a whole other cycle!

Southern Design Studio started out in 2004 as a rebellion against what I had seen wedding photography become: great traditional photography was being replaced by boring, ho-hum photography.  Each bride looked like the other and each groom looked just as uncomfortable as the next!  I knew that there had to be a better way of capturing the couple’s true personality, not just in photojournalism but also a true portrait that spoke about them.  The best way to do this is to get to know my couples as well as possible before the wedding.  I start to notice typical gestures, the way they sit or stand, their personalities.  Some people are energetic and outgoing, whereas others are much more comfortable with quiet and stillness.  Knowing and noticing these differences in people has allowed me to open my mind and photograph each client differently.

I know that planning your wedding can be tedious, but I truly hope that I can help you with the experience.  On the day of your wedding, I am what some brides have called a “calm presence.”  I understand weddings, their flow, the hodgepodge of people, the often complex family arrangements, and I understand my couples well enough to know when to step in to help and when to be a fly on the wall.  During the course of the day, I try to make the photography sessions fun, happy, and stress-free.  I move quickly and efficiently to make sure all the images you want are being captured in a timely manner, especially after the ceremony.  During the reception, I tend to keep a pretty low profile, stepping in when needed, but mostly just photographing what is happening!

I do hope I’ve given you a little bit of insight into what my vision is with Southern Design Studio.  Please, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail, call, or even IM me!

I wish you and your families all the best during this exciting engagement,
